Institute Description

Deshbandhu College (Evening) now named as Ramanujan College was established in 1958 by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Government of India, in the memory of Late. Lala Deshbandhu Gupta, a patriot who had dedicated his life to the national freedom struggle. Originally run by the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Education as a men’s college, it has been maintained by the University of Delhi since 1972. In 1994 it opened its doors to women students too.

Ramanujan College, now known as Ramanujan College has become a separate entity and will have New Campus in 7 acres of land in Kalkaji, New Delhi. The New College will be a Delhi University maintained college fully funded by UGC. The college has come into existence in July 2010 after taking over the assets, liabilities and employees of erstwhile Ramanujan College

Srinivasa Aiyangar Ramanujan (December 22, 1887-April 26, 1920) was an Indian Mathematician and autodidact who, with almost no formal training in pure mathematics, made substantial contributions to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions, who during his short lifetime compiled nearly 3900 mathematical results independently. Ramanujan is considered one of the world’s greatest-ever mathematician, who mainly worked in analytical number theory and is famous for many summation formulas involving constants such as TT,prime numbers and the partition function. In 1997 the Ramanujan Journal was launched to publish work “in areas of mathematics influenced by Ramanujan”.

Located in Kalkaji in South Delhi, Ramanujan College offers degree courses in Commerce and Humanities. It is the third largest college for Commerce education in Delhi University. Once the New College building is ready. College will mainly focus on Mathematics, IT, Computers, besides Commerce & Humanities. It has a highly qualified and experienced faculty many of whom are also engaged in post graduate teaching at the university. A number of our teachers have original published academic and creative work in reputed national and international journals.
