Product or object design is as old as the human civilization. The evolution of the profession of Industrial Design, however, is rooted in the industrial revolution of the late 19th to 20th century, whereby industrially manufactured products were to attain humane and artistic attributes. In an age of rapid social, technological and cultural transformations, effective training of the new designer must be based on creative and practical concerns of maximum relevance involving issues that are local and global simultaneously.

The primary aim of the programme is to foster wholesome design experience through an interdisciplinary process of teaching and training.
