Jorhat Engineering College was established in 1960 at Jorhat, Assam, by the state government of Assam. Jorhat is a town of Upper Assam and it is situated around 300km east of Guwahati, the capital city of Assam. Jorhat is connected to rest of the country by bus, railway and air traffic

Initially the college was started with three different discipline, namely, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. Currently, two more courses has been introduced, one for Computer Science and Engineering and the other one is Instrumentation Engineering. In all these decipline, four year B.E. degree course is conducted. It also has a post graduate course in Computer Application. The College is affiliated to Dibrugarh University. All the degrees are offered by Dibrugarh University. All the courses are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education, INDIA.
