Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore started in 2002 as "Amrita Institute of Technology & Science" with a vision to produce quality engineers with service attitude for the benefit of the society and nation. The school was conceived of as the grooming ground for future engineering professionals of India. Initially it had only three branches: Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology. It was then affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgum.
From 2004 it is under Amrita Vishwa Vidya Peetham, University under Section 3 of UGC Act 1956. This has brought flexibility and independence in curricula and programs. At present, the Bangalore campus offers six undergraduate programmes and one M.Tech program. The programs are based on credit system with an emphasis on continuous evaluation of students for best utilization of their efforts and time. The faculty has a close interaction with students by posting class advisors and mentors from among the faculty.
The faculty strength is presently 144, which includes those with long experience from premier institutes and Industry in India and abroad, especially from the US. Highly qualified and technically experienced faculty members, state of the art facilities, and the rich industry-academia interaction make engineering education at Amrita a unique and enriching experience.
