Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988. The Basaveshwar Engineering College was started in the year 1963 offering bachelor degrees in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering affiliated to Karnataka University, Dharwad. At present it offers the degree programs in ten disciplines and five post graduate programs. The College is a Government aided institution affiliated to Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgaum in Karnataka and approved by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi.
