Amrita School of Engineering, Bangalore started in 2002 as "Amrita Institute of Technology & Science" with a vision to produce quality engineers with service attitude for the benefit of the society and nation. The school was conceived of as the grooming ground for future engineering professionals of India. Initially it had only three branches: Computer Science, Electronics & Communication and Information Technology. It was then affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University, Belgum.

The College is located in ideal surroundings , 1/2 k.m from the bus stand, 2 k.m from railway station and 16 kms from the airport. The founder, Chairman of the trust Sri A.Sadananda Shetty is a receipent of the Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Award.
