The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland has been established by an Act of State Legislature under "The Global Open University Act 2006" (Act 3 of 2006) by the Government of Nagaland. After receiving the assent from the His Excellency, Governor of Nagaland, the establishment of the university was notified in Government Gazette vide notification number Law/Act-10/2006 on dated 18th September 2006. The Distance Education Council, New Delhi has recognised the Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland vide letter DEC/GOU/NGL/Recog/2008/8685 dated 2nd June 2008. The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland is empowered to award degree as specified under section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 vide UGC Letter No. 4- 2/2007 (CPP-1) dated 26th February 2008. His Excellency, Governor of Nagaland, is Chancellor of the University. The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland is administered by a Governing Council. The Council has distinguished dignitaries among its members having representatives of Nagaland Government, an educationist of repute and an academician nominated by Pro-Chancellor. The Academic Council is responsible for all academic matters.
The Global Open University (TGOU) has interim headquarters at Dimapur (Nagaland). The Global Open University (TGOU) Campus has well-equipped physical and academic infrastructure with workshop, laboratories, computer lab and library. The Act of The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland permits the university to offer programmes through online mode across the country and abroad. The Global Open University (TGOU), Nagaland has become a pioneer in India by introducing Technology Enabled Learning (TeL) and on demand online Examinations to pursue its mission of providing means for ”Self – Paced, Self – Styled” any time, any where learning.
