Course Details
This course covers what is news, the different kinds of news stories, role of the reporter, where to find sources, the importance of accuracy, attribution, balance and fairness, verification of facts and sources, covering meetings, speeches and news conferences, taking notes, the use of press releases and announcements, interviewing techniques and the basics of covering a beat. In this course students will learn to edit news reports for print and new media. They will learn how to select the right words, and reject the superfluous ones; locate gaps in news reports and strengthen copy, judge news reports and decide display, and write eye-grabbing headlines. This course will cover how to tell a story using text, photographs, audio and video files. Students will be required to visualize and develop multimedia stories for publishing on the net. Students will work in teams to identify media issues, research background content and lead discussions. The goal of such activities will be to build confidence, develop analytical skills and foster team spirit.

    The minimum qualification needed to join the Post-Graduate Diploma Course in Journalism is graduation. Students will be chosen on their language skills. Students proficient in English will be enrolled in English-language course. Students proficient in Hindi will be enrolled in Hindi-language course.

    The application can be sent by e-mail or by post and should include the following: 1. Covering letter whose subject line should indicate whether the student prefers to specialize in English-language or Hindi-language programme. 2. Resume that should contain the following information: Name of applicant, Age, Postal Address, E-mail, Contact number (if any), Education details from Class 10 to Graduation/Post-graduation, Distinctions/Awards (if any), Details of articles written for School/College magazine, newspapers etc, Computer proficiency giving details of which programmes that the student knows. The IMII Faculty will invite all those candidates whose academic record indicates that they have a potential to become good journalists. These candidates will be asked to take a short, written test followed by an interview. Those found suitable will be offered a seat in the programme.
