The College, established in 1996 by Padma Shri Dr. M. Mohan Babu has grown in its size and stature over the years, from an initial intake of 180 to 924 students. SVEC is one of the largest Engineering Colleges in Andhra Pradesh and the first of its kind in Rayalaseema. It offers 8 UG and 4 PG programmes with faculty strength of over 180. With consistent and excellent academic performance of students in the University examinations, the College has endeared itself to many students and parents.

The College has achieved many benchmarks. It has been accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and accorded permanent affiliation by JNTU. The College has submitted proposals for Integrated Campus and Autonomous Status and is all set to seek Deemed University Status in near future. Many eminent academicians and dignitaries who visited the College have acclaimed the quality of education imparted in the College and appreciated its achievements since its inception. The College is awaiting permission from AICTE to start B.Tech (Civil Engineering) course and two M.Tech programs (one in Software Engineering and the other in VLSISD) from 2009-2010.
