Sikkim University, a central university established and fully funded by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament of India came into existence on 2 July 2007. On the same day, Prof. Ashesh Prosad Mitra of National Physical Laboratory of CSIR and Prof. Mahendra P Lama of Jawaharlal Nehru University were appointed as first Chancellor and first and founding Vice Chancellor by the President of India as per the section 46 (a) of the Sikkim University Act, 2006 for a term of five years.......
