The University of Mumbai (known earlier as University of Bombay) is one of the oldest and premier Universities in India. It was established in 1857 consequent upon "Woods Education Dispatch", and it is one amongst the first three Universities in India.

The Osmania University, established in 1918, is the seventh oldest in the country, third oldest in South India and the first to be established in the princely State of Hyderabad. Though the need for a university for the Hyderabad State was felt, both by the intelligentsia and the people for a long time, the initiative came from a civil servant, Sir Akbar Hydari, who was then the Home Secretary to the State Government. The Guru Jambheshwar University Science & Technology, Hisar was established by an Act of Legislation of Haryana State on October 20th, 1995 to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of higher education. It is named after Guru Jambheshwar, a saint, environmentalist of 15th century. The University has grown to its full size and stature within a short span of 8 years.
