Kalasalingam University, formerly known as Arulmigu Kalasalingam College of Engineering (AKCE) was started in a humble way, by Kalasalingam and Anandam Ammal Charities in 1984. Kalvivallal Thiru T. Kalasalingam, a veteran freedom fighter, is the founder Chairman of the College and now is the Chancellor of the Kalasalingam University. Shobhit Unversity goes beyond the established standards and aims to create a conducive, enabling academic climate to facilitate integration of the younger generation in to logic of the present system and to develop educational means by which youth deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in transforming to a better world.

At VIT, semester pattern is followed. An academic year consists of two semesters. The Fall (Odd) Semester begins in June and the Winter (Even) Semester in December. The academic schedule mentioned in the academic calendar will be strictly followed.
